Since the fall of 2018, Town of Spirit River in partnership with the MD of Spirit River #133 and Village of Rycroft have been working with ISL Engineering and Land Services Ltd. (ISL) to prepare several new municipal planning documents. These include an Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) between the three partnering municipalities; an update to the Municipal Development Plan (MDP) for the MD and preparation of a new MDP for the Town and Village; and updates to the Land Use Bylaws (LUBs) for all three municipalities.

The purpose of the IDP is to address future growth opportunities and other development-related matters of joint interest between the Town, MD and Village such as growth management, annexation, transportation and servicing, and information exchange. The MDP is the Town’s primary planning policy document and addresses matters associated with land use, transportation and servicing within its boundaries. The LUB, also known as a zoning bylaw, regulates land use in the Town on a site-specific basis. The Town approved its existing LUB in 2009. This document is being updated to ensure it meets current needs and reflects emerging development trends.

Community open houses were held in October 2018 where we asked for feedback on potential issues and opportunities and visions for each of the respective plans and bylaws. Using the feedback gathered and information gained from background and technical reviews, a draft IDP, draft MDPs, and updated LUBs have been prepared.

We are now seeking your input on the draft plans and bylaws to help us refine and finalize the documents.
